- Ok, the reason you have 4 rings, the piston is a long skirt piston.

- Note the image at the link, you have a long oil port, both sides at the 4th groove that is extremely long. The assembly significantly controls more oil than the cast iron ring, that is where you want the oil ring assembly, to scrap as much oil as possible off the cylinder wall. The second oil ring is to control any remaining oil that has gotten past the assembly so carbon buildup in remaining rings will be minimized.

- Still not convinced? Click the right arrow for the next photo from Chrysler and you'll see the correct placement of the oil ring assembly. You'll also see expanders under the rings, ignore those. Also note the dimple in the center of the piston, remind you of anything?

- Placing the oil ring assembly in the 3rd groove is incorrect.
