From various Chrysler literature, it appears that the Truck Master was not officially released until 1948. If you have one with a date stamp earlier than that, then that is a cool find!

Most of these heaters were dealer installed, sometimes a few years after the truck was delivered to the customer. I agree that people, dealers especially, did not follow directions or spec sheets. They just installed whatever they had available on the shelf at the time. Many dealers were not Dodge specific. The one local to me carried Allis Chalmers tractors and equipment, and just happened to sell a few Dodges too. (One Power Wagon I used to own was delivered through them.) This may explain why so many oddball non-MoPar heaters are found in Power Wagons. Especially the generic no-name ones that kind of look like Model 36 heaters, but are not.

I have found also that heaters are a good source of date stamps.
