Ok, the input gear bearing went out on the transmission in the truck, so I rebuilt a spare I have and decided to make transmission guides to facilitate installation of the transmission. The purpose of the guides is to prevent damage to the clutch assembly. I used two 9/16-12 (NC) grade 8 bolts, 5 inches long, cut the heads off and made a slot for a screw driver. I installed the guides lifted the transmission up using a transmission floor jack. Once I got the transmission to the level of the guides, it slipped on fairly easy and slid along the bolts to mate up. I continued to support the transmission with the jack during the process. Once I got the two bottom bolts in and snugged up, I backed out the guides using a screw driver. Guides backed out real easy. I recommend you make a set when doing transmission work, they really make the process a lot easier. If you use the slideshow at the link, images are displayed larger.
