I agree with everything Ddd said above.

I will add..

The "long drives" I've been doing are a lot about working out the bugs. But also, working on my learning curve. Much to the detriment of my poor truck.

What I've found is that these machine are subtly different to drive and maintain than the modern cars. If you just hop in and drive them without a thought, they break. You have to be way more careful about maintenance. Fluid levels, lubrication, adjustments; you have to be on top of all this all the time.

I didn't check the fluid level on my NOS differential often enough. I missed that it had run out and froze it up. I checked my NOS transfer case a week or two after installing it and found the oil had gone black and goopy. Obviously something is affecting the oil. Now I've swapped it out twice. Its getting better. The motor oil slowly goes away. Leaked, burned? Probably both. But I learned, the hard way, I have to watch this all the time. Bring an extra quart along too. Did you know there are at least three places that need lubrication on the distributer? Read up on that and serviced it this last week.

The machine is teaching me that, if I want to drive it around, it demands a LOT more attention than I'm used to giving.

I other words, you have to retrain yourself on care & maintenance on these things too.
