My assistant fire chief just picked up a 2006 3500 cummins truck. Very clean, local trade at the ford dealer with just over 100k on it. Day 1 the transmission kicks out of park about the time both feet hit the ground. He didn't think much of it since it's a new truck to him and he didn't have the feel for it yet. Did it again the next day while his wife was still in the passenger seat only he had made it a few feet away so she had to dove over the console to get it stopped, then it would not go into park at all. ...
I read up on it and this was a huge deal for a few years starting shortly after the trucks came out. Dealer is telling him the mechanism is being redesigned and parts won't be available till around Christmas. This seems like a huge line of horse$#!£ for a 10 year old problem. Long story short is at this point his truck that was traded in is long gone and the dealer has had this 06 for over a week. Anyone have any insight on what the failure actually is and a possible short term remedy should the dodge folks actually have a solution coming soon? I suggested a rope and a chock which he responded by offering to store 50' of 1.5" fire hose in my rear quarters. ;)
