You are evaporating a gallon of gas every 15 minutes. The is soaking up LOTs of heat.

It's the same way an air conditioner or refrigerator works. The pumpm compresses the gaseous freon into a liquid, which gives off heat at the condenser. Next in the cycle is to evaporate it in the evaporator, which soaks up heat. You carb is your evaporator.

It's one reason engines don't run well when cold- the air is so cold,, there is less heat to soak into the gas, so it stays droplets rather then fumes. Droplets don't burn, they need to be heated into vapors, so we use heat from the exhaust manifold. Controlled by a heat riser.
