I am going to pick up a T6.354 Perkins Turbo Diesel, 5 spd OD trans, and Brownie 3 spd Aux (OD) trans tomorrow. It was an e-bay item last week, and is in Houston.
If I put the Brownie in my PW300, my current top speed of 62 mph will be increased to 80 mph at about 2,500 rpm. So cruising 70 mph,
I should get around 20 mpg.
Now, for the T6.354 and 5 spd OD, that could go in my 68 W300 Crew Cab that now has a 318-3. This can be my daily driver, with the addition of a/c of course.
The seller of the engine + trans claims the 1 ton Chevy that it powered would easliy do 100 mph, and got up to 27 mpg.
Now, after figuring this, I can easily see how our courageous friend Larry Cook acheived the Power Wagon land speed record of 130 mph approaching Three Rivers, Texas.
He has a custom W300 Crew Cab, 3208 CAT, Allison 6 spd, + a Brownie aux OD trans.
Believe it.
