Hey guys,

I am searching for a centered rear differential for my Carryall as one of the previous owners installed an offset rear diff along with a two-speed t-case. Now I am trying to return the truck to the centered rear.

Here is what I think I have figured out:

Centered Rears come in the following varieties:

1) 1/2 ton 8 7/8" ring gear (easily identified by narrow track width and 3/8" studs for the third member).
2) 1/2 ton housing upgraded to 9 5/8" ring gear by military (welded ring), or others (multiple gaskets).
3) 3/4 ton with removable inspection cover with 8 7/8" ring gear identified by 3/8" threaded studs (original 3/4 ton configuration used until mid '43)
4) 3/4 ton with removable inspection cover upgraded by the military by welding an 1/8" spacer to the front of the housing. Deep cover required.
5) 3/4 ton oringally built with deep inspection cover in very limited quantities. These axles apparently were a transitional offereing by Dodge and were quickly replaced by 6.
6) 3/4 with 9 5/8" ring gear and welded rear cover. Available after mid-'43 as standard equipment.

*** all 9 5/8" axles have 7/16" studs.

So, to aid in my search, can any of you add any detail regarding the dates that each of the 3/4 ton axles were used or if there were any model specific use of each axle. I would prefer (5) because it will include the bolted on cover that was correct for the WC53, but will include 9 5/8" ring gear to be compatiable with the locker that I already have in the truck.

Of course, if any of you have #5 or #6 and are interested in selling, let me know.

Thanks,
Dan
