My WC53 with a July 43 date has a 9 5/8 rear diff and an axle with a welded on cover. Apparently this is a replacement axle. The front axle is the 8 7/8 with a removable front cover. I put 4.89 gears fron and rear. The front gears came out of a 1/2 ton truck and you could see all the machine marks on the gears. It looks as if someone had put it in and parked it. No rust or pitting on it.
I do have a spare centered rear axle. It appears to have the deep rear cover that unbolts and it has the smaller studs. I will eventually put it in my PW with 9 5/8 5.83 gears.
