I know of at least two individuals who ended up getting ahold of real Hmmwv's, so I know that story is a bunch of crock.
I can see how things like anti-terrorism policies could manage to strangle public sales, but they haven't stopped selling M series trucks, have they?
I don't think the government is going to continue selling through GL. It's probally more work than say... to have everything loaded on a ship to india.
GL sucks. They have suckered up to some CO somewhere, making some back door deal. Who knows where the stuff ends up.
Just like most of the military, they're all sub-contractors, with their boots on the desk.
