Exactly. I keep telling people the "H1" and the "H2" are as different as night and day, but everybody just thinks the "H2" is an improved "Hummer". I tell them the H2 is just a Suburban with an overpriced body but they don't care. It look scool. Oh well. I don't care either now that I own some GM stock. If the H2 is a high-profit way to extract money from young men who have more money than brains, it's fine with me.
The HMMWV is a good vehicle. It has its limitations including being too wide for many trails and assorted engine troubles early on, but all in all it's the first satisfactory replacement for the M37.
But do you thing they'll actually sell them to the public? They quit selling gamma goats and M151s long ago. The French-owned Government Liquidation which now handles all the surplus sales has even stopped providing Form 97s (necessary to get a title) with M35s. I suspect most surplus HMMWVs will go for target practice and scrap, even though they'd probably bring $15,000+ at auction if they were in running condition. Oh well, the government doesn't need the money any more -- they can just borrow it from the Chinese, who will soon own this whole country.
