timing gear removal .machine shop question.

does the timing gear on the crank pull off or is there a puller used. im taken the eng apart to have a valve job done and have the crank checked. am i write in saying there is no valve seats is it worth having some cut in . i dont think the cyl need much more than a honning ??. im going to have a machine shop do a valve job check the crank is there any thing else i shoud have them check while it is there.
