I allowed about a 1/4 inch of free pedal play not rod play, that is much less. The shoes are new and drums are also smooth. I think your right on breaking in the shoes then re/adjusting them. I only just adjusted the upper cam till they just touched and have not done anything to the lower one. In fact I have not adjusted them corectly yet by the sheet of information Vaughn pervided that I have a copy of. When bleeding the brakes I had much futher travel of the pedal but since I do not have the engine in yet I can't break in the shoes or test the stopping power of the system. Mark H.
