I suffered the ultimate embarassment during hunting season. On the way up a steep mountain hill, with 8 inches of snow - well packed and slick from previous travel, I lost traction in my 63 WM300. The truck has Michelin XZLs (which I hadn't aired down)and a rear Lock-rite locker. Just as I was unspooling my winch cable, a friend in a new F150 Supercrew pulled up and a hooked up to him, and he was able to pull me enough to get going again. Total humiliation - I will hear about this for the next 20 years! Anyway, I have 2 pair of chains that fit my old 9.00X16 tires, and want to have them lengthened. Is there a serious risk of damage running chains front and rear? How about with the rear locker? Does anyone have experience with the criss-crossing type of chains you see on log skidders? Please help, I have vowed to be the last vehicle moving in the next snow!
