additional angle would be negligible and probably not bad. But would the slip-joint in the drive shaft still have full engagement? Why don't somebody try it?

Re: side to side offset, ever look under a van ? Most of them (in the 70's, at least) had offset engines to give the driver more footroom -for all those pedals.
