I am interested in your remarks. I have a 2001 Cummins truck. I think the real problem with them is the front axle and suspension. There are no lockout hubs, and it has that coil spring front with the track rod that seems to wear.
I have spent some time thinking about finding a 12-valve Cummins powered truck from the era you describe. It would have leaf springs on the front and lockout hubs. The unfortunate part, I suppose, is that it would still have a chain drive transfer case.
If your Getrag fails, you can now get a bellhousing that will allow you to install a NV 5-speed.
How does this truck ride? Like a truck?
Isn't the sheetmetal interchangeable over a great range of years on that truck?
