Having been through the same search, I understand. I was not looking for an extended cab, though. That beeing said, the jump seats in the extended cab aren't that great so you probably won't miss them that much. The getrag transmission has it's weaknesses, but if the truck hasn't been used for heavy towing then you will be fine. First Gen owners have discovered that overfilling the getrag by one quart will drastically extend the transmission life. About six months ago I bought two trucks in one week; a 1991 W-250 CTD and a 1993 W-250 360. I will say that the book prices are routinely low for these trucks. In a year and a half of looking I never saw a first gen diesel, in good shape sell within $2000 of the book value. Both trucks that I bought are exceptional pieces that were elderly one-owner truck, garaged, etc. I think that there were three scratches between the two trucks. The 1991 was a 49k truck. The owner had it advertised for 12k, but when I showed up with a cashier's check for 10k he rolled over. The 1993, we paid 9k for. (it only had 29k on the ticker). The 1992 will have an intercooler and will keep you from having to add one (as I did), but it will need a few other upgrades. Figure on spending around $1000 on a turbine housing, exhaust and gauges (but once the bomb bug hits you are in for it). Best of luck and I hope you find what you are looking for. I hope that this helps!
