Eric..two sets of numbers to look for: cast into the driver's side of the engine about dead center on the block between pan rail and deck surface will be something like "1020457-318-4". That will tell you the CID (318)and the quality of the mold in which it was cast (#4). On the front face of the block, driver's side immediately under the head gasket line and next to the water pump, you will have numbers punched into the block with a die. It will give you something like 318-3-65748. That gives you the CID (318), the "1-3" desiginator (car, truck or heavy duty) and the engine serial number. You may have to scrape paint or grease to find this one.
