OT 383-350 GM

I hate to do it but I dont trust to many other people and thought someone could help. My daily driver and hauler engine finally gave up the ghost. It's a '87 TBI 350 GM 1 ton CC. I have found a GM 383 stroker (carb model) for $2500 new in crate. HP starts out around 350, torque is up in the 400's. Anyone ever swap one of these into a truck and how did it go? I'm using a turbo 400 auto trans. Is it a big deal to can the computer TBI for the carb? My other option is a rebuilt 350 with a rv grind cam and chip for the TBI for about the same price, installed.
