It is not dreaming; it simply depends on how far back each state maintains its motor vehicle records. Colorado keeps certificate of title records for only the past 10 years, and all earlier records are purged. Years ago I bought a truck titled in Virginia that came with copies of all ten certificates of title issued from 1945 (the Mfgr. certificate of origin) to the then-present. The seller obtained photocopies of all old titles from the VA DMV, which maintained its title records many years into the past.
