I posted a message earlier looking for some input on shortening the jackshaft on my FF PW after installing the longer NP540 tranny. After looking at it again tonite, I realize that the shaft angle will be pretty severe, like 17 degrees. Then the thought came to move the transfer case back to decrease the angle. Then maybe I would not have to shorten the jackshaft.
There are two ways that I see to move the transfer case. 1. By drilling out the 12 rivets of the crossmember and moving the crossmember back 2 1/2 inches within the frame rails. OR 2. Notching the crossmember in the rear so the the transfer case mounting brackets can be moved back about 1 1/2 inches. Then the crossmember would need four new holes to mount the transfer case. The jackshaft would still need to be cut down about 1 ".
#2 seems somewhat easier than #1. But, I question whether or not either is the right approach to this problem. Any feedback on what I am thinking will be appreciated.
