how to take paint off that was put over original paint

i have a flat fender power wagon that somebody shot red paint over the original green paint. i would like to restore to the original green paint. i think the original paint was good they painted it red for a parade in 1976. i was wondering if stripper would take the first layer off without hurting the original green paint. any help would be appreciated. thanks dave
