I have a Power Wagon which I have had for a few years and now would like to rebuild and restore. I only usr it to drive fire roads and to haul firewood, and I have been satisfied with the 230 ci engine, but now if I am to keep the truck I would like to have a somewhat more modern and stronger engine in the truck. I really want to keep everything original except the engine which I don't care if it would be gas or diesel. I do know that Hercules offered a diesel which was and easy fir for the M37 and that a few forum readers and PW owners have transplanted Cummins 4bt's into the trucks but I would like to keep the Np 420 trans.I guess that their is not and easy drp in fit for these truck engine swaps or else more people would go this route, but I believe our trucks would be better served with a newer type engine swap instead of the 230 and 251 designs which originated in the 1930's. I have heard that late in the WM300 production life that the 225 slant six was installed for export models only, and I would think that more owners would consider this swap for a more modern engine. I would prefer the use of a straight 4 or 6 cylinder swap.Any ideas along the criteria of which I ramble about? I t would be nice if all of us PW owners could find and easy bolt in engine which would supply plenty of torque and horsepower along with fuel injection without to much fabrication or conversion to the truck. Not to much to ask and for sure less the $3000.00!!!! OH well I guess I'll keep driving the 230 until it dies and keep dreaming for he perfect replacement!!
