Just look out for low temp solder (in the prefab units) as your high draw will melt the connection.
I use the un-insulated crimp-ons onto tinned wires and then solder the joint. Tip is to have your pencil hot so you only touch the joint for a second. Too much contact makes the joint too brittle.
I also use heat shrink from AMP that is dual layers. The inner layer melts and flows into the joint for a weatherproof seal, while the outer layer shrinks to the wire size. It is much more expensive, but well worth it, besides you don't use that much.
