i used to be able to get more power speed out of my m-37. i need some help as i cant figure it out.
up until recently i have had no problems with power, but now i have to down shift on even small up grades.
this is what i know:
compression 100 lbs on all cylinders
replaced coil points condenser rotor (couldnt get a cap)
changed all parts above and problem is the same
hooked up vaccuum tester and needly is pretty steady- reading is a little low 16-17 where is should read 18-20. the gauge indicates that my timing is late. i advanced the distributor using the major and minor adjustment screws, but it doesnt help.
i havent messed with the carb yet, as you should get the timing right before adjusting the carb- right? what carb problems could i be having????
what else could be robbing me of power? slipping clutch, wheel bearings too tight?
muffler is not clogged
what help can you experts give me - i'm going to buy a timing light tomorrow, but i have never needed one before. you can usually time these engines well by feel.
thanks for the help.
