Parts Cleaner and Axle Vents

Anything wrong with using paint thinner as a parts cleaner? I was out of Varsol.

Found out some goof-ball altered the differential vents fore & aft. Rear lacks a cap entirely and front has been squished together with a pair of plyers.

I would rather wait and get a large parts order together before I pay shipping on two teeny weeny parts - are there any quick fix's you can think of?
