Not sure what part you're referring to as the jet pump. Is it the piston with the plate and rod that is pushed down on acceleration? If the carb has sat for extended period, these parts get oxidized and are difficult to remove. There is no thread on the piston and if it's stuck apply some heat to expand the aluminum. Are you using a carb cleaner or just solvent?
It wiser not to remove plugs unless you have new ones to replace them.
