Bob Jones put a vintage hemi, 2-speed transfer case, 5.83 gears, and PW/WC 3/4-ton axles in a WC-12. I'm less ambitious and less talented. I'm planning a 251 (you could do 265) and upgrading the rear axle using 3/4 ton axle shafts and spider gears from VPWs with taller tires. You just need to extend the front collar mounting ears back 2" to sit in the same position as the 230. It does put the fan very close to the radiator though.
