I know this has been asked before, probably by me as well.

From time to time I consider a more modern power train install in my 1941 1/2 ton closed cab dodge.

The entire reasoning is for more drivability, a little more umph (not a race car power) and probably the biggest reason, a more QUIET truck

My goal is to retain the frame, axles and steering, and not cut the firewall or move the cab or bed making it look funny

Id like a modern carbureted gas engine, retain a 4 speed with granny low transmission, and consider a 2 speed transfer case.
Do not want to go the diesel route, 4bt or otherwise.

The transfer and tranny could be mated or divorced.

I read whatever I can find online, others builds, study their build photos, but obviously not gonna give me the details

Not having a junk yard full of wrecked trucks to measure engine widths and lengths, transmission sizes, etc it makes it difficult to put together a plan

What I have determined is a V8 gasoline engine would be tight side to side especially around the steering gear. But looks like it would have enough front to back clearances

a straight 6 (Chevy /ford/dodge) may give me that side to side room, but may be too long, possibly causing fan to radiator clearances and/or firewall clearances.

It would be highly likely Ill need hanging pedals. Unless there are floor mounted options?

Anyway. Anyone on the forum gone this route and are happy with the results?

What items did you use? What obstacles did you encounter?
