The thing folks don’t understand about Budd split ring rims…once the tire has initially been installed, it’s physically impossible for the ring to come off…the tire bead is sitting on top of it keeping it locked in. The only way it’s coming off is if your tire lost all its air & then the bead moved over an 1-1/2” to allow the ring to come off which it’s no longer dangerous without air in it.
Airing it up for the first time…yes…be careful! Use a cage! Get a professional to do it but once inflated…totally harmless. Once a guy looks at one that doesn’t have the tire on… you understand how it works & why they’re 100% safe.
