I found that when the transmission is cold, shift early or at slower speeds, depress clutch, neutral, release clutch, speed the engine some, depress clutch, and quickly shift to next gear. When warm shift at higher speeds.
When down shifting, you really have to speed the engine up before shifting to a lower gear.
You have to match the cluster gear rotation speed to the transmission main shaft gear rotation speed to minimize grinding, and for the most part, that is a guess.
To make it easier for shifting, install a tachometer and note the engine speed before depressing the clutch, then match that speed on the second clutch depress before shifting. The quicker you work through the shifting process, the less grinding you'll have. Don't expect to get to the point of a synchronized shift, you will always have some grinding, the goal is to keep it to a minimum.
If you don't use the double clutch process on a spur gear, you'll grind you way to the next gear, significantly reducing the transmission life.
