As far as the washers - I have had to stack two or three washers on my trucks in order to raise the radiator high enough to align the hood correctly. On one truck, I have more washers on one side than on the other.
Here is a trick. Take any flat washer(s) of your choice and thickness and notch out the center hole in one direction all the way through the wall of the washer. You will end up with washers that resemble a horse shoe. You can now insert and remove washers to find tune your adjustment without having to lift the radiator and cowl assembly completely out of the way.
