Yeah, you probably dreamed it, you’re working too hard! :=) There is no seal that goes inside the retainer, although other transmissions do use one such as the SM420, item 20, at the link. If it's a concern you could find a seal that fits the shaft and have the retainer machine to except it. If the clutch housing cover seals are in good shape, dust and water shouldn't be an issue. There will be dust off the clutch disk, and centrifugal force and air movement should throw it out to the sides of the housing where it will stick to any oil or grease and that won’t be an issue either. Any dust that might make its way to the bearing would be washed into the trans and layered at the bottom.
