Those hp numbers are based on sea level. He's at 8500 ft plus, so derate those by 4% per thousand feet. That's about 34%, and your 120hp at the wheels drops to 80hp. Try going up an 8% grade with that! You'll be in second gear with 4.89s. Guess how I know that?
I get approx 160hp at the crank from sea level to 10,000ft at 5lbs boost. A turbo (or belt driven supercharger) is the ONLY way to get that kind of performance from a 230 flathead at altitude. There just isn't enough air/oxygen available otherwise.
