Axel width GM corporate 14 bolt

I want to put a "corporate 14 bolt" 8 lug GM axle into my 49 dodge power wagon rest-mod project.

The front tires on the original PW appear to be 5'-6" on center.

What GM axle width should I get?
I'm think of 4.88 ratio to support 38" or 40" tires.
Any suggestions are welcome.
