Do shifting forks ever wear out?

I'm starting to hear yet a new rattle in my WC53. It tends to start in high gear at 40+ mph? At first I thought it was just some harmonic body rattle. But lately, from the sounds I'm hearing, I'm starting to wonder if it's firts/second gear rattling around in there.

Not opened anything up yet to look. Just wondered if anyone else has ran into something like this before.
