You might want to review the TIPS section of the PIF regarding knuckle reassembly for tips & pointers.
Rebuilding the carrier is fairly straight forward and I would recommend you rebuild the carrier and install bronze washers for the side gears instead of the material washers that come in the kit, the bronze last a lot longer. VPW should have those. You'll need to make some special tools to do it. In reading through the manual you'll figure it out or I can post some pictures of the homemade tools I made to do mine.
If you live in hilly country, going to 4.89 gears will slow you down fairly fast climbing hills if you're running 9.00-16 tires. If you plan to considered an engine upgrade, then you might want to do the 4.89's as you go through the rebuild.
