Todd, I do not see any holes- that would be amazing to see with the thickness of that cast steel! I will look at the pictures again, but the exterior does contain surface rust, but those chunks on the outside are a mixture of decades of oil, grease, dirt, and dust- it comes off with a small screwdriver, and is the most satisfying part of cleaning up!

Before I spent $600 on that, I reckon I would ask the seller to clean out that residual gear oil for further inspection. I would also ask for a 'package deal' on that engagement lever that he is offering. Now THAT is a fairly rare bird...
