I got the 100 ft-lb stuff from reading a post from MSeries Rebuild. (See link) When setting up my machine originally, with all new parts, this seemed to work fine.
Now? I'm not getting a good feeling about it. I didn't take out the races, so they should be still seated in there. All I did was clean the bearings and re-grease them. I *think* I was able to keep the correct bearing with the correct hub. I did make an effort to keep them separate.
As for the reason the seals failed. I think the lock/seal nuts were too old and worn. I've got some shiny new lock/seal nuts this time around. I don't know what seals I have because I've not opened the boxes yet.
If I'm going to do this by feel, and that's what I've been thinking I'm going to have to do, I worry because its pretty tight anyway. Not like its loose, loose, loose, whoops! Its tight now, like I'd expect. Its now a matter of choosing how tight is enough before doing the 1/6 backoff.
