I doubt it's factory setup.
My guess someone installed a helper axle and no telling what they used for suspension.
The proper way would be to use a Slipper spring setup like trailers use.
Or a Bogie like your M35.
Iv' seen some where they just installed another axle with separate springs and hangers.
You can imagine the drawback of that setup.
I also doubt it's a live axle.
Your just going to have to look for yourself
And report back.
It could have been installed by a Body company when the bed was mounted.
That would be best case scenario.
Could also be a D500 which makes more sense and I have seen.
Every now and again someone pops up with one ton home made tandem.
