You said preserve instead of restore so I'm assuming you want to keep it in the same condition it is currently in. I suppose there may be clear protectant coatings that would help maintain/fortify the present condition without altering the appearance (sheen), but I'm not schooled as to which ones would be best. I have seen vehicles with clear sprayed over worn paint/metal & it was too shiny to my liking.
