Split rims again

Hi guys , my project for this weekend is to pull some tires off six lug budd rims and get ready to have the tires put on five lug rims for my power wagon. I will be going to a tire shop to have the tires mounted but I have been told there is no danger in removing the tire from the rim. Is this true and if so any suggestions for speeding the process.
