I did not mean to give the impression that all recent PW owners are hobbist/collector/investors but, it has become obvious that in the last 10yrs,we have seen more and more collector/investor types buying up the good trucks and NOS parts and driving the price up beyond what was once reasonable and affordable for the average joe.
Gordon Maney once told of a fellow he met who drove an old truck (ford I believe)in one of his wonderful "sitting on the tailgate" stories. It described a person I could relate to as a kind of kindred spirit. This was how many early PW owners seemed to be to me, a kind of barnstorming ,fly by the seat of your pants PW nuts. Then seemingly overnight it became commercialized which wasn't all bad as far as information ,books, pictures, and repo parts went but, something was lost in the transition. Kinda like when Yellowstone went from wilderness to a national park.
I remember a time when PW nuts spoke of feeling out potential buyers of their PW as not to let it fall into the hands of someone who would not Love, respect and take care of it. Now it seems many will sell to anyone with cash. I'm not insinuating that all new PW owner are that way but,I do see an ever increasing attitude towards that mentality.
"Foreign father, American son, father see what your son has done,he's torn down the mountains and reshaped the plains, the dreams he dreams aren't the same" Nancy Griffith, from the song "the ghost in the lines" I guess for better or worse ,the world has moved on.
