Thats an M880 you have right? anyway, check your connections at the bulkhead connector, if your main power coming thru is loose it will arc and you would hear that thru the radio as a crackle, My M880 had that wire loose, it did all kinds of screwey things until it died in the street, then I found it. Also make sure the wires are tight on the back of the ammeter. Most of the older chrysler products discharge at idle with the headlights on. Mine does it.
