on the medium and HD trucks you could get both types running at the same time. full flow has some advantages and bypass has some advantages. I read an SAE study where the conclusion was that neither was better than the other on a scoring basis but each had separate abilities. eg the bypass removes more fine particles and acidity from the oil. full flow filters more oil faster and larger particles.
