When I bought my house in 1977, the washing machine and dryer were specifically excluded from the purchase contract, so I assumed the seller would take them. But after closing, there they were, still in the basement. Drat, I thought, they must have been inoperable units used for staging. So I ignored them for 3 weeks. Finally, tired of going to the neighborhood laundromat, I gave them a try. They both worked!
After 43 years the Sears Kenmore washing machine is still going strong. The only maintenance has been to tighten a wobbly pulley and replace the V belt 30 years ago.
The old dryer died 25 years ago, so I bought a Hotpoint front loading replacement that works like a charm. Good old American made appliances keep motoring along, just like our favorite stout truck. :)
