The M37 TC uses the same gear as the FFPW, C-561651, 4 tooth, the M37 pinion uses 14 teeth, same as the FFPW, except it's longer. There is no other pinion option for an M37. Let's look at the gear ratio mathematically:
- 14/4 = 3:5
- 14/5 = 2:8
3200rpm/3.5 = 914.3 pinion rpm
3200rpm/2.8 = 1,142.9 pinion rpm
914.3/1,142.9 = 80% or a 20% gain, same as installing 4:89 gears over 5:83 gears, in 4th gear or 1:1 ratio.
Unless I miscalculated and the parts manual at the link is incorrect, the pinion using the 5 tooth spins faster speeding up the speedometer and this is how the pinion rpm is increased to compensate changing to 4.89 gears from 5.83 using the 14 tooth pinion. Let me know if I'm wrong. LOL
