Starter position

The 6 volt two hole starter on my '49 FF is mounted so that the sole terminal is within 1/4" of the block. There is a non-conductive patch glued to the block to prevent contact. Is that correct or can it be rotated 180 deg. so as to turn the terminal away from the block?
