Please let me begin by saying thanks to a fantastic and helpful group of forum participants. Great site! I'm wondering about the age of my flat fender WDX? I've owned/driven my truck for 15+ years, and it's registered as a 1950. Last summer I cleaned the plate on the driver's door jamb (rusty screws, not riveted on, with years of overspray obscuring it), and the serial number indicates it's a 1947. According to VPW identification, the first series 1945-50 should have four bed pockets on each side which mine has. BUT, the early series is also supposed to have a round speedo with rectangular gauge clusters on each side. My truck has a round speedo with a group of four gauges in the center of the dash ('51-'56 with three bed pockets on each side). How can this be? I don't think there was a lot of swaping/tampering done because as far as I know my truck spent its life in service to a local power company (still had decals and I purchased it from an engineer with the company). So is there a solution to this puzzle or is it just part of the fascination/mystery of anything this old? Thanks.
