I appreciate all the suggestions. Eric, sometime this afternoon I'll try to search block/frame for numbers. Right now the weather service tells me I have 48 hours to get firewood bucked, loaded, unloaded and under cover. There is another small plate below the vin plate on the door jamb with the numbers 4312-5520 stamped in it. What's that for? One note I had written in the past reads, "i.d. area on L-side of engine block between 1 & 2 cyls is blank. Plate on top of head reads 2-22." I remember having difficulty finding any numbers. Milo, the T137 decoder shows 1947 when I enter the vin plate serial number. Also, I dug out the registration and was wrong about 1950. The registration shows 1949. If that's correct, could this be a "transitional" truck with a early bed and newer cab/dash from the factory? That would be a simple solution to the mystery with only the door jamb vin tag being changed by someone at a later date. OK, later. Promise I'll crawl around with a flashlight in search of block/frame numbers when the real work gets done. Might even get some pix. Thanks again.
